Guidelines for Submitting Artwork
To enter the London Young Artist Award, applicants must submit a high-quality digital image of their original artwork online. This can be a scan or a photograph. Please refer to the tips below on how to create a high-quality digital image to upload and submit for our art competition.

Your digital artwork will be used to determine the finalists, so it is important to create a high-quality digital copy of your artwork to be judged. Full-colour scans using a printer/scanner often produce the best results, but almost all phones and digital cameras are capable of creating a quality image for submission
* Please ensure that your image files are up to10 MB in size and are saved in one of the following file formats: JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, or PDF.
* You may submit up to 3 images of your submission, including different angles or details.
* Please ensure that your files are of high resolution, not crooked, and easily viewable.
Reflection (required): All submissions must include a written reflection (artist’s statement) of at least 100 words. This will be a separate question on the submission form. Review reflection requirements >

How to make a digital scan of your artwork
Step 1
To scan your artwork, place it directly on the glass bed of the scanner. If your artwork is larger than the scanner, please take a picture instead.
Step 4
Save the scanned image file to your computer after confirming that it meets the required specifications.
Step 2
After scanning, please save the file as a .jpg or .pdf format. Once the scanning is complete, open the file on your computer to confirm that it looks good, is in colour, is straight, not at an angle, and is below 10 MB in size.
Step 5
Please note that it is important to rename the scanned file as "last name, first name" (e.g. Leo, Alex.jpg) to avoid any confusion.
Step 3
If needed, please rotate the image to ensure that it is upright.
Step 6
Your scanned image file is now ready to be submitted to the London Young Artist Award. Good luck with your submission!

How to photograph
your artwork
1. When taking a photograph of your artwork, please place it on a flat surface or hang it against a wall in a naturally lit location. Ensure that the artwork is not resting at an angle against the wall or floor. Do not use flash photography.
2. Using your phone or digital camera, take a straight-on picture of your artwork as close to it as possible. Centre the lens of your camera or phone with the centre of the artwork. Ensure there are no shadows or glare on your artwork when taking the picture. If there is, try moving the artwork to a different location. If the picture is blurry, retake the photo.
3. After taking the picture, open the file on your computer to ensure that the image looks good, is straight and not at an angle, and meets the file size requirements of up to10 MB. Save the image as a JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, or PDF file.
4. If necessary, rotate the image so that it is upright. We recommend cropping the image to show just your artwork. Do not make any substantial changes to the image, such as applying an Instagram filter. The goal is to have a photograph that resembles your original artwork as much as possible.
5. After cropping and making any necessary adjustments, save the file to your computer. It is important to rename the file with your last name and first name, for example, "Leo, Alex.jpg". This helps us to organise and identify the submissions.
